1. Wrong Guy

Am I nowhere, close to going there
Close to knowing how to be
You stand there waiting for a reason
For the season to change on me

And you know I, I'm the wrong guy
To be messing with
And you know I, I'm the wrong guy
To be right for again
For again

Could I reach out, dare to see out
For the stoned eyes upon you now
Am I a poster of a man with a holster
Looking out for the dangers about

And you know I, I'm the wrong guy
To be messing with
And you know I, I'm the wrong guy
To be right for again
For again

So hey could you read me a book
But start at the end 'cause I don't care what took
So long to break you down
Did the man lose the girl before the storm left the town

And don't call my name
Cause I'll be right there with a bucket of hate
And don't sing a song
Cause it'll rain here before too long

And you know I, I'm the wrong guy
To be messing with
And you know I, I'm the wrong guy
To be right for again
For again

2. Pocket of Red

Just like the hills rolling green
Shadows paint a sunlight scene
Fall on your shoulder sit on your sleeve
All the company you need
Just like the clouds are turning grey
Saving it up for a rainy day
You've got nothing, nothing to say
It's all right to feel okay

Of all the shades I see in you
The only way the light shines through
A pocket of red, a bucket of blue
Of all the shades I see in you

I've been around since you've been gone
Not much amazes me anymore
I gave up on trying to settle the score a long time ago

A little bit angry and mostly sad
I guess you got used to feeling bad
Remember the good times we used to have
Before they went away

Of all the shades I see in you
The only way the light shines through
A pocket of red, a bucket of blue
Of all the shades I see in you

3. A Touch is All

This town won't look like it did back then
Even when the turntable spins around like an old friend passing by
Just passing by

Disappearing act, disappointed view
A gut reaction, telling everybody you had things to do
Had things to do

So just a taste, just one look, nothing more is all it took
A touch is all it takes to make me look for you

I could head back home, maybe one more time, for a laugh or two
To ease my changing mind for now
My mind for now

So just a taste, just one look, nothing more is all it took
A touch is all it takes to make me look for you

Where'd you learn how to run
Where'd you learn how to run
Did everybody show you how
Did everybody show you how
And I'm so sure

With a walking cane and hair gone away
I'll tell stories of the places I just had to go but couldn't stay
I just couldn't stay

So just a taste, just one look, nothing more is all it took
A touch is all it takes to make me look for you
Just a taste, one last look, nothing more is all it took
A touch is all it takes to make me look for you
For you, for you, for you

4. Pittsburgh

I went to Pittsburgh and I went by walking in a main street corner, store, store, store
I left New England and a sun dress was talking begging me for more

I picked a red rose steel town grown and cast a shadow by the river side
I ate the fire and I drank the sandstone and took a rain check on my pride, pride, pride

I bought a camera and took a freeze frame of an old nun, she was mortified, -fied, -fied, fied
I sang a new song with an old name and it cut me deep inside, side, side

And God, He named me, held me ransom, and put my picture on his shelf, shelf, shelf,
I wrote some lines then I soon forgot them
Cause I started to think of something, else, else

I picked a red rose, steel town grown cast a shadow by the river side, riverside

I went to Pittsburgh and I went by walking in a main street corner store

Pride pride pride

5. Seven Dollars

At the place we knew back when
The drinks would flow while the fans would spin
Crimson showers sinking in, through your stained glass eyes

It almost never seemed quite fair
Almost like we weren't even there
For more than two smokes and a round
Before the final call would sound

So drink 'em up and hold me close
Don't give up on what you know
There's seven dollars in my coat
So don't you worry anymore

Old Man Floyd he can't help the temptation
To think of the red headed girl on the bus
He met at the government station
Before the war let up
she chased his conscience with her smile
Chased his past away for awhile
But it caught up with him in time
To chase away his sweet old mind

So drink 'em up and hold me near
Don't put much into what you hear
There's seven dollars in my coat
So don't you worry anymore

Does it make you sad to sit at home
Looking out on the concrete growing
Through your stained glass eyes out your window every morning

You know there's nothing wrong with that
We all need a place to be when the world
Is looking back at us before it shakes the trees

If I don't leave here too soon
I might not wake up 'til noon
And if I don't wake up at all
Tell the boys I had a ball

Drinking up and side to side
Nothing more than a place to hide
There's seven dollars in my coat
So don't you worry anymore

6. In the Back of Your Mind

She smiles as she fills my glass
The regulars won't leave her alone
She calls me baby, cause she don't know my name
I got nowhere to go

I really need to cut this hair
I really need to shine these shoes
And i don't know a soul around here
So nobody seems to lose

And i'm way too cool to cry
And i'm way too young to die
And i'm fine for now getting by
Somewhere in the back of your mind

They don't talk at all like you
They don't walk the way you do
And they don't do anything to turn my head a second time

The drunks on the boulevard
Don't know just where they are
So they ask me twice and i'm always nice
To show them one more time

And i'm way too cool to cry
And i'm way too young to die
And i'm fine for now getting by
Somewhere in the back of your mind

Fine for now, getting by
Somewhere in the back of your mind

7. I Don't Like It

I don't like to be this far away from you
I don't like to feel the distance start to grow
I don't like to be this high
Just a speck up in the sky
Flying everywhere but where I want to go

I don't like to lay awake in the dark
On some worn out motel bed all alone
I don't like to feel the cold
Slipping in around my soul
I don't like to feel it clinging to my bones

I don't like it, baby
I don't like it, baby

I don't like not to know what's on your mind
I don't like to have to wonder where you are
I don't like to walk alone
Getting bad news on the phone
Seeing everything but what I want to see

I don't like it, baby
I don't like it, baby

I don't like not to hear the things you say
When you're telling all your friends about your day
Taking turns to laugh out loud
At whatever it's about
Do you think of me when the laughter's gone

I don't like it, baby
I don't like it, baby

8. All Grown Up

Somebody read my mind and told me I was wrong
Somebody said goodbye and then they were gone
Everybody had a pretty good time
Everybody got along just fine
Didn't we

And I'm right there over and over
With a blank stare oh why does it always seem
That the right words, they never find you
When you're all grown up like me

Somebody read the news and told me it was real
Nobody gets to choose the way that they feel
Everybody had something to say
Everybody had to see it there way
Didn't we
And the time fell under your finger in a cold spell
Why does it always seem
That the right words they never find you
When you're all grown up like me

9. Come Out Tonight

So come out tonight
I'll be waiting for you now, it's all right
The past is over
Save your silences for some other day again
I'm not full of sense but I'm not afraid to want you back, to want you back

So pick up the phone
It's been ringing there for hours all alone
Oh so patiently
'Cause I'm the one who's telling you it's my fault again
Won't you lend an ear 'cause I'm the one who off and went away, I went away

So tell me about your relatives in Birmingham
Don't tell me about the picture show
Tell me about the picker with a steady hand but a long, long way to
Go for what you wanted, isn't he sweet
Did he buy you a souvenir?
And tell me about the drummer with the steady beat who was talking in your ear

Don't stand by the fire
'Cause I'm not looking for a bird on a wire
To sit there waiting for me
I'll be in the midnight scenery against it all again
I'd be with you ordinarily, with no choice but to stop and stare, to stop and stare

I'll be waiting for you now
It's alright it's alright
I'll be waiting for you now
It's alright it's alright
Come out tonight

10. Candy Red

If you can take it I can make it go away
Somewhere north
But the more you know will make me grow up that day
And what you do

So go tell them all
I'm still ten feet small
Heavy on your head
Candy red

I'd take a drive but it wouldn't find me a place to be
But they'd want me
Why take the fall there when I could draw there in the sand
With an empty hand

Tell the ones you see to forget about me
And all the funny things I said
Candy red

I'm over gone, did you notice
It won't be long 'til you pass me by
Cause you run so fast
You run so fast
So far

Cause you make it last
You make it last
So long

Don't waste your time just to pick up a nickel off the floor
For some pretty bill
Don't walk around just believin' everybody wants you more
Know they will

Tell your garden lie all about your night
Tell the monsters in your bed
Candy red

11. Last Goodbye

Never thought you'd change your mind
Giving up on you and me
Guess you never know where the tears will fall
My stiff arm kept you away
My pride didn't last a day
Now it don't feel that stiff at all

I told you I was scared to death but
I couldn't help but feel your breath
Tell me how you'd seen it all
I'm hanging out with the girl living down the street
Who couldn't find her soul if it bounced off her own feet
And hit her in the jaw

Where'd you go hope you come back soon, maybe you
Could meet me where I'm standing
heart's in twelve thoughts in one
Tell me now where have you gone
Where have you gone I hope you come back soon

You took me up then down
Then you saw the part of me you never found
Though I've been around
I have never been to where it is I'm going now

Thinking about our last goodbyes
I'm not sure who won the prize I guess we both lost in the end
Now I ain't hesitating to self-medicate
I take what I can to keep my mind from waking up, waking up again

Where'd you go hope you come back soon, maybe you
Could meet me where I'm standing
Hearts in twelve, thoughts in one
Tell me now where have you gone
Where have you gone I hope you come back soon

heart's in twelve thoughts in one
Tell me now where have you gone
Where have you gone I hope you come back soon
